Open pores, black heads & white heads:
Small pit-like pores that appear in Combination Skin or Oily Skin are called “Open Pores”. Open pores might make the face look dull and matured. Open pores occur because of high levels of oil (sebum) production, reduced elasticity around pores, thick hair follicles, genetics or heredity.

Pores also accumulate dirt and thus become clogged. A clogged pore leads to further complications like pimples, blackheads, and excess production of sebum.

The skin starts showing signs of aging when oxidation takes place. Oxidation takes place when a compound loses electrons because its oxidation (level of oxides) is increased. Common example: Oxygen combines with iron to cause rust (iron oxide).

Blackheads are one of the consequences of oxidation on our skin. Blackheads are comedones that are open at the surface of the skin. They are filled with excess oil and dead skin cells. The black hue or blackish colour of blackheads is from the irregular reflection of light coming from clogged hair follicles and not due to dirt.

Whiteheads develop when dead skin cells from cellular turnover, sebum (oil), and dirt clog your pores.

Whiteheads are closed within the pore, and cannot be pushed out, unlike blackheads which are open and can be pushed out.
